Blueteeful - $35. by Gary Brunotte (advanced level) This is a medium tempo swing all the way in AABA song form. It's very bluesy and in the key of Db. It has a number of sax soli sections, one with Soprano (Alto I chair) in the lead. There are trumpet and trombone solos who also share 8's, 4's and 2's on their way out. The last chorus is very busy with some difficult contrapuntal ensemble sections (soli groups - saxes, trpts, tbns) stretching to their limits. It can be a very exciting piece if well rehearsed. The lead trumpet hits a high F. The piece is 174 measures long and runs about 5 1/2 minutes.

Bridge Mix - $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium to advanced level) This starts out as a bright Samba and changes into a modal feeling half-time latin. There are some short 12/8 feel sections. It begins and ends with a one measure unison line for everyone. There is an alto solo over a series of dominant 7 chords. The latin section features a flugelhorn melody and a piano solo over some difficult modal changes. There is also some soprano lead in the sax melodies. The lead trumpet hits a high Eb. The piece is 158 measures and runs about 5 minutes. The score and parts are professionally printed using Finale¿.

Chickish Tinge - $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium to advanced level in the Soprano Sax) This is a mix between latin and double-time samba. There are some easy meter changes leading into the double time. It features flugelhorn and soprano sax melody sections. The saxes have an interesting soli with the soprano in the lead and an optional bass clarinet for the bari part. There is an open soprano sax solo on mixed modal and dominant 7 type changes in the double time samba feel. It has a dramatic conducted ending. Trumpets use occasional mutes. The lead trumpet hits a high Bb. The piece is 111 measures and runs just over 4 minutes depending on the soprano solo. The score and parts are professionally printed using Finale¿.

Meggan - $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium to advanced level in the flutes) This is a soft and gentle mood piece done in 3/4 time featuring alto flute (Tenor I chair) melody. It has an optional free style solo piano intro and ending over changing lydian chords. There are a number of reed-doublings including flutes, clarinet and bass clarinet. The trumpets use occasional mutes. The tenor has an open solo in 6/8 in Db lydian. The lead trumpet hits a high Bb. The piece is 98 measures and runs about 3 1/2 minutes depending on the solo.

No U Turn - $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium to advanced level in the bass) This piece is in 3/4 and switches from 3 to 4 bar phrases. It has a rubato intro featuring a harmon muted trumpet accompanied by piano. There is also a slightly difficult harmon muted trumpet section with just drums and a pedal point in the bass, leading into a bass solo. It has a short baritone solo and two bass solos, one over changes and one free-style. It is a very dynamic and impressive piece, especially for a gifted bassist. The lead trumpet hits a high C. The piece is 269 measures and runs about 5 minutes depending on the free bag solo.

Pensive - $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium level) This is a combination ballad and latin tune with a latin/rock guitar solo. It starts off with a haunting baritone solo melody. This is followed by a soprano (in the Alto I chair) melody with a gentle sustained background sound. There is a brief free section leading into the baritone solo which is in a latin feel. The rhythm section drops out for a contrapuntal interlude followed by the guitar solo over four dominant 7(#9) chords. The horns enter in a layered effect taking it back to the latin and then the ballad feel for the ending. The lead trumpet hits a high C. The piece is 96 measures long and runs about 5 minutes.

Roquefort Sundae - $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium level) This starts out as a medium fast samba with a swing section in the middle. There is a trumpet solo on easy changes in the samba part and an alto solo over dorian mode changes for the swing section. It later changes into a bluesy funk feel utilizing the motif from the beginning of the piece. The lead trumpet hits a high C. The piece is 188 measures long and runs about 4 1/2 minutes.

Sincerely Yours - $30. by Gary Brunotte (medium to advanced level for the trumpets) This is a straight ahead AABA form ballad with the alto and trombone sharing solo melody for the A sections. It has a short sax soli in a double time feel. Solos are in the alto and the trombone over changes which go through three different keys. It has room for a wonderful alto sax cadenza if you have a talented individual in the group. The lead trumpet hits a high E making it rather difficult at a ballad tempo. The piece is 64 measures and runs about 5 minutes. The score and parts are professionally printed using Finale¿.

Slightly Blued - $35. by Gary Brunotte (advanced level) This piece starts out in a 6/8 feel and switches to swing feel for the bridge which is a very challenging modal melody, harmonized in fourths by the lead alto and trumpet. There is a modal sounding alto solo followed by motivic development shared throughout the ensemble. The rhythm section drops out for a contrapuntal interlude between the lead trumpet and trombone. After a piano solo, it's back to the bridge followed by some more motivic development climaxing with a sax riff under a short trumpet solo. This is a very energetic piece and would work nicely for festivals if well rehearsed. There is some soprano sax in the alto chair.The lead trumpet only goes up to a high B. The piece is 144 measures long with open length solos and it runs from 6 to 8 minutes.

Mary Rose- $35. by Gary Brunotte (medium level) This switches between latin and a double time samba with contrasting melodies between the two sections. There is a sax soli and a solo in the soprano (tenor I chair) in the double time feel. There are some flute doublings and an optional bass clarinet part in the bari chair. The lead trumpet hits a high C#. The piece is 132 measures long and runs about 4 minutes.

The exercises are largely II V I patterns for major and minor keys. The book also serves as great sight reading material and improvisation studies.
